"Did you hear what I said?" This is Robin Hood, three years after the Crusades, back in Nottingham, attempting to persuade Maid Marian to finally marry him. From Guy Ritchie's perspective, Bill Thomas' historical cliche concentrates on old-fashioned accuracy, but without the studio, the cash for pulling action sequences. Adventures of Maid Marian Afdah
This is the Robin Hood narrative as recounted by Mad Marian, with a little feminine kick-ass for feminism. It begins with Marion (Sophie Craig) battling Robin. She is dying of boredom while pretending to be an inventor named Sister Matilda. Instead of hunting deer for the starving people, one of his pastimes is to hide behind his best mother (and clinging to the soldiers who come in his way).
Robin Sherwood returned after the king's death. After a half-hearted snog, the pair flees from the Sheriff of Nottingham (Bob Crier), who has returned, heartbroken by his three-year banishment. Despite having one of Hollywood's greatest archives to base his performance on, from Errol Flynn to Russell Crowe, Dominic Anderson modestly portrayed the part of Robin Hood.
There are a few interesting double-crosses along the road, but Mad Marion's voyage is rather smooth; perhaps the source flaw is too thin. The script has an odd "started!" However, it is almost comically immature - there is even a profane nun: "Jesus, Matilda!" And pity Nottingham's poor insecure farmers: they hardly get a look.
